Electronic weighing systems for continuous scales, hopper scales and bulk scales

Electronic weighing systems are very variable in their use. Due to the lower costs and simpler installation, this is the most commonly used type of weighing system today. Three and four load cell systems are the most common and generally consist of soft or stainless steel load cell stands. Their design is simpler than that of a levered hopper system as it is simply a group of load cells housed in individual fasteners. Shear beam, double shear beam, compression and suspended load cells can be mounted under the vessel feet or suspended from the top of tanks and vessels. Electronic continuous scales, hopper scales and bulk scales can weigh tanks and hoppers weighing from a few kilograms to hundreds of thousands of kilograms.

Electronic load cells offer a high level of protection against moisture, debris and dirt generated during the weighing process and are usually made of stainless steel. The bending or stretching of the steel in the center of the load cell triggers a movement in the load cell’s strain gauge and sends the analog signal from the load cell through the wiring to a terminal box or weighing terminal. The combination of weights captured by each load cell assembly is summarized in the weighing terminal and then sent to a display device.

Electronic continuous scales, hopper scales and bulk scales are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Electronic hopper systems are robust, easy to mount and bolt down, and wiring the load cells to the junction box is straightforward. Although the weighing system does not usually need to be OIMLor NTEP approved, it is recommended that you use OIMLor NTEP approved load cells for your electronic weighing system for accuracy and quality standards.

Exemplary DEtails for a transfer scale for road salt

  • Automatic scale for discontinuous weighing of free-flowing bulk goods for receiving and dispensing operations.
  • Scale frame as a steel construction on a base frame with maintenance doors that can be opened on all sides
, incl. connection piece for aspiration. Connecting piece for aspiration.
  • Integrated inlet system with electro-pneumatically driven and ball-bearing mounted inlet flap for coarse and fine flow metering.
  • Weighing vessel with an electro-pneumatically actuated, ball-bearing mounted double discharge flap and a holder for calibration weights. The force is applied via special force transmission to strain gauge precision load cells made of stainless steel, protection class IP68.
  • The strain gauge load cells are wired to a special plastic terminal box (IP66).
  • Compressed air cylinder and solenoid valves connected to pressure switch and compressed air maintenance unit (water separator + oiler).
  • All electrical components (solenoid valves, switches, etc.) are wired to a plastic terminal box (IP65) with terminal strip.
