In 2015, an electronic dosing hopper scale was implemented for the precise weighing and dosing of hops. The system was specially designed for use in the brewing and beverage industry, where reproducible dosing accuracy and reliable processes play a key role.
At the heart of the system is a conical stainless steel weighing hopper mounted on three load cells. Vibration-absorbing rubber bearings are used to minimize the effects of vibrations. The product is fed in via three dosing augers, while a separate auger takes over the controlled emptying of the weighing hopper. All augers are equipped with electronic speed control to ensure even and precise dosing.
The dosing hopper scale has a bidirectional interface to the higher-level process control system based on a Siemens PLC. This enables seamless integration into existing production processes. A data output is also available, which can be used to record and document dosing protocols. The entire system is made of stainless steel and therefore meets the requirements for hygiene, durability and industrial robustness.
