Static track scales HE-GW & HE-GSW – Calibratable precision for rail & road
With the ESSMANN HE-GW and HE-GSW static rail scales, ESSMANN | Waagen & Automation offers high-precision, legal-for-trade weighing systems for stationary use in rail freight transport – developed on the basis of decades of experience in industrial scale construction.
ESSMANN HE-GW – The classic static rail scale
The HE-GW is a tried and tested standard model: the rails are mounted on the scale bridge, making it ideal for precise static weighing of freight wagons. The system is particularly effective in combination with our EWP-GW weighing software for the weighed loading of bulk goods or tank wagons under stationary filling systems.
ESSMANN HE-GSW – Combined rail and road vehicle scales
The HE-GSW extends the range of applications: in this variant, the rails are embedded in the bridge structure so that both road vehicles and rail vehicles can be weighed on the same scales. This offers maximum flexibility for transshipment points, logistics centers or factory premises with mixed traffic flows.
High-quality components & modular design
Both scales systems consist of robust precast concrete bridges and foundations, which ESSMANN supplies and installs in full. Alternatively, the foundations can also be constructed by the customer using in-situ concrete.
If you are looking for a robust, proven solution for legal-for-trade static weighing under stationary filling systems, we recommend the ESSMANN HE-GW or HE-GSW rail scales. These scales are made of durable precast concrete bridges, are ideal for permanently installed loading stations and are particularly suitable for classic weighing scenarios with tank wagons or bulk goods wagons. The HE-GSW also allows road vehicles to be weighed, making it perfect for sites with mixed traffic flows. If, on the other hand, you value flexibility, modular expandability and a particularly low overall height, we recommend the HE-SRS.

The HE-GW/GSW rail vehicle scales program is a system for weighing rail vehicles and complies with the applicable DIN standards, the regulations of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the OIML recommendations. The load specifications of DIN 8119, DIN Technical Report 101 and LM71 are decisive for the dimensioning of the scales. In addition, the relevant DIN regulations and the current leaflet on fair-faced concrete from the Fachvereinigung Deutscher Betonfertigteilbau e.V. with the defined fair-faced concrete class SB 2 form the basis.
Customized track scales – special lengths, special widths & track gauges
The HE-GW and HE-GSW static track scales are not only available as standard solutions, but can also be flexibly adapted to individual requirements. By combining several bridge modules (e.g. two or three prefabricated bridges of different lengths), a composite scale can be created – ideal for weighing particularly long or modular train sets.
Special dimensions & customizable track gauges
- Single bridge lengths up to 10 meters
- Special lengths and widths for specific application scenarios
- Versions for standard gauge, narrow gauge and broad gauge
- Adaptation to all common rail profiles
This makes the HE-GW and HE-GSW suitable for almost all track infrastructures and vehicle types – from industrial railroads and plant traffic to special rail-bound solutions.
For applications with tying devices, such as those used for loading liquid gas, recesses for cable guides can be integrated into the weighbridge on request.
Standard-compliant design in accordance with national & international regulations
The scales are designed and constructed in accordance with all relevant technical regulations:
- DIN standards and PTB guidelines for legal-for-trade track scales
- OIML recommendations for international conformity
- Load assumptions according to DIN Technical Report 101
- Railroad regulations LM 71 / UIC 71 / DS 804 (Deutsche Bahn)
The precast concrete bridges are manufactured in the heavy-duty concrete grade C45/55 – for maximum durability, load-bearing capacity and resistance in industrial track operation.

“The project planning is smooth and the project execution is flawless thanks to ESSMANN’s experience.”

Assembly info
The HE-GW or HE-GSW static track scales are installed directly on site by the experienced ESSMANN installation team. Once the precast concrete bridge has been installed, the scales are precisely adjusted and aligned to their final position in the track.
This is followed by manufacturer verification – a legally prescribed procedure for approval for legal-for-trade operation. The entire weighing system is checked, adjusted and documented using certified calibration weights and test vehicles.
This step is part of the so-called conformity assessment procedure and certifies that the scales meet all the requirements of the German Measurement and Verification Act (MessEG) and the guidelines of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB).
After successful initial verification, the scale is immediately ready for use in official weighing operations with legal validity – e.g. for weighing in retail, when loading hazardous goods or for logistical verification.
