What role scales play in your life – without you realizing it
Coffee, toothpaste, doctor’s appointment, shopping, gym, dinner. What sounds like a normal day is actually a silent miracle of technology. You have never consciously noticed it – but scales accompany you wherever you go. Mostly invisible, always reliable. Without them? Your day would be pure chaos.
Join us on a journey of discovery through your everyday life – and find out why you blindly trust grams and kilos more often than you previously thought.
Coffee, exactly 7 grams please!
Your morning begins with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. But long before you hold the cup in your hand, precision is required: your coffee has been on a scale up to 10 times before you prepare it. The first time immediately after harvesting, then after washing or drying. Of course, again after drying and then after hulling, before it was weighed again before being exported in sacks or big bags. After import, the weight of the coffee is checked again to verify the quantity, quality and delivery bill.

match. It is then weighed for each roasting batch before roasting and again after roasting to document water loss and to obtain values for the recipe and for consistent quality. It is then portioned, whether as whole beans or ground: Always accurate to the gram! And if you are a coffee nerd, don’t rely on measuring spoons, but weigh it again for each of your coffee preparations: On average, 7 grams of coffee powder for 100ml of water.

Toothpaste does not lie
You squeeze the tube – quite naturally. But during production, every ingredient in your toothpaste has been precisely weighed, dosed and bottled. Because consistency, taste and effect depend on each ingredient being contained in the right proportion. What you get is tested balance for healthy teeth.
Breakfast with control mania
Muesli, milk, nuts – sounds simple. But it only is, because checkweighers do a great job in the background. Every ingredient is weighed and checked during production. Too little? Complaint. Too much? Economic loss. Even the packaging has been checked for its ideal weight – so that you can rely on quality.
Love of bread rolls weighs heavily
The smell of fresh bread in the morning – simply wonderful. But in the bakery, it’s not just about feeling, it’s about grams: flour, water and yeast are weighed precisely, dough is portioned to the gram. This is the only way to make every bread roll as crispy and fluffy as you love it. Scales are not just helpers here – they are the true recipe keepers.
The asphalt under your feet – weighed, mixed, poured
Whether highway, crosswalk or cycle path: the surface on which you move is not a product of chance. Asphalt consists of a complex mixture of rock, sand, bitumen and fillers – and this is weighed to the gram in huge mixing plants.
For every kilogram of asphalt that ends up on our roads, the components have been precisely weighed up beforehand – depending on requirements such as noise reduction, temperature resistance or load-bearing capacity. One mistake in the mix? And the result would be cracked, dangerous or not durable.
The moisture and density of the aggregates are also regularly checked by weighing – because even the smallest deviations have an impact on quality.
On the scales at the doctor’s – of course!
It’s normal to step on the scales during a health check. But what you don’t see: Highly sensitive microbalances are also used in the laboratory. Blood samples, medication, reagents – everything is measured in micrograms. Without this precision, there would be no reliable diagnoses, no safe therapies. Not just every gram counts here, but every millionth of a gram.
Safety guard in the poison cabinet
Hazardous substances are used in many laboratories and in industry. Their storage is monitored by intelligent safety storage cabinets with integrated load cells. These register every withdrawal and sound an alarm in the event of deviations. Safety that literally carries weight.
Pump it – but with precision
After work, it’s off to the gym. You mix yourself a protein shake or treat yourself to a protein bar? Both are products with perfect dosage. Powders and liquids are automatically weighed, mixed and filled. Every milligram counts with food supplements too – for your performance, your health, your success.
Logistics, purchasing, online shopping – all balanced

Whether on the shelf in the supermarket, at the tea retailer, in the warehouse of an online store or during shipping: scales check whether everything fits. Parcels are weighed, returns checked, shipments optimized. So everything arrives on time, complete – and correctly priced. And completely unnoticed.
In the evening? Perhaps a good glass of wine
A glass of wine to round off the day – precision was also required here: during bottling, sealing and labeling. Even the cork was checked with control scales. The result: enjoyment that is just right – down to the last drop.
But who controls the inspector?
Now comes the crucial question:
Why can you rely on all these scales with such confidence?
The answer is simple: because scales are also checked regularly.
Reliability is a must. Whether in the pharmacy, at the doctor’s, in food production or in the laboratory – legal requirements apply everywhere. Weights and measures offices and test centers ensure that scales are regularly checked and calibrated.

Because one thing is clear: trust comes from accuracy.
And that starts with the scales.
In short: scales are the silent companions of your everyday life
You hardly see them, but they work for you non-stop. Scales ensure that your coffee tastes good, your medication works, your parcel arrives and your everyday life runs smoothly. They are the invisible masters of precision in a world where reliability counts.
Perhaps next time you’re at breakfast, in the lab or out shopping, you’ll think of these little silent helpers for a moment.
Because without them? Many things would be very difficult.
Curious? Work where the world remains in balance
Scales are more than just technology – they are a symbol of fairness, justice and trust. Whether in food production, healthcare, environmental protection or industry: wherever dosing, measuring or testing takes place, you need people who are accurate to the gram.
The scales industry offers secure jobs with a future – because as long as there is gravity, there will be a need for scales. And as long as people need precision, there will be a need for clever minds to develop, build, maintain and develop this technology.
