The ESSMANN HE-Point is a non-calibratable rail scale for continuous monitoring of wagon loads during operation – ideal for operators who want to manage safety, maintenance costs and logistics processes efficiently.
Incorrectly loaded or overloaded freight wagons not only endanger rail traffic, but also lead to increased wear on track infrastructure and vehicles. The HE-Point offers an effective solution here: it measures the weight directly on the track – contact-free, automated and in motion(Weigh-in-Motion).
The installation is foundation-free, without separating the rail track: the intelligent sensor systems are integrated into the rails. The measurement of wheel, axle, bogie and total weights is fully automatic – as is the detection of locomotives, wagon types and train formations.
All relevant data is recorded, evaluated and displayed via the weighing terminal and our EWP evaluation software – either on site in a protective housing on the track or centrally in the operations control center (e.g. in the signal box).

The electro-mechanical rail vehicle scale is designed for dynamic weight determination of all rail vehicles in axle-by-axle weighing and for determining wheel loads. The system serves as a non-verifiable checkweigher.
Force sensors (protection class IP68) are installed directly in the rail track of the track system to determine the weight. The force sensors are protected against external mechanical influences by a protective cover. The measuring cables of the load cells are combined in a terminal box for each rail. The measured values are transmitted from these to the weighing system via a special measuring cable.
Intelligent alarm systems & data networking for maximum control
With the ESSMANN HE-Point check weighbridge, you can define individual alarm limits – precisely adapted to your safety and logistics requirements. The limit values can be freely set for:
- Wheel weights
- Axle loads
- Bogie weights
- Total weight per wagon
- Longitudinal and transverse load distributions (deviating load)
You can choose between absolute weight values or percentage tolerances. As soon as a wagon is overloaded or incorrectly loaded, the system automatically generates an alarm message – directly on the monitor, as a printout or as a digital notification:
- E-mail to the control center
- SMS to mobile devices, e.g. directly to the locomotive
Modern weighing software with interface expertise
The associated EWP weighing software runs on standard PCs or servers and offers a modern, intuitive graphical user interface. It supports all common communication protocols and can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems.
In conjunction with our wagon identification systems such as:
- TRANS-IT (RFID/transponder recognition)
- NUMBERCheck (video-based trolley number recognition)
… the HE-Point can also be used for wagon tracking, customer-related loading control and product-related monitoring. The system recognizes automatically:

All data is displayed live on the screen or automatically documented – e.g. for quality assurance, audit specifications or hazardous goods tracking.
Information on mounting the dynamic checkweigher
The ESSMANN HE-Point checkweigher can be integrated into existing track systems particularly efficiently and without major structural measures. Our installation teams install the precise sensor systems directly in the existing track – without foundations or track interruption.
The sensors are integrated using special rail drilling machines and hydraulic press-fit tools. After professional cabling, the checkweigher is calibrated with a reference train and the EWP weighing software is installed on the desired system (PC or server).
Our experts then provide instruction and training on site. The first weighings are actively supported by our team to ensure a smooth start to the inspection operation.
